First Post!

Hi everyone! I am excited ,and nervous, about starting my first blog ever (I know.. a little late to the party..). So a bit about me- I am currently living in Phoenix and working for the International Rescue Committee. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) “responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and in 22 U.S. cities, the IRC restores safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. The IRC leads the way from harm to home.”(Check out the site for more information)

This blog is an effort to shed some light on the refugees specifically in the Phoenix area; why did they flee their home countries? How are they adapting to life in the United States? What impacts are they having on the community? The main goal is to help give a better understanding of refugees and their lives in the Phoenix area. Any feedback and/or comments on how I can make this blog better are more than welcome (but try to keep it clean..).
